Dear friends,
Political expressions reduce thoughts of open consciousnessDear Friends
Two members of the Australia Indonesia Arts Alliance, Tjintana Matahari and myself commenced broadcasting the Indonesian Radio Program " Suara Indonesia" on Tuesday nights 6-8pm during November and will be continuing on into the year 2000. The program is broadcast by BayFM Community Radio Station which services the NSW North Coast Region and up to the Gold Coast in Queensland. I am writing to request product samples of CDs of Indonesian music which we will promote through the radio show. I have discussed with the radio management our desire to promote Indonesian musicians, cultural organisations, CDs, distributers and record labels which they are happy for us to do in order to support the musicians and promote their music. Please send sample CDs with details of contact information for ordering, to gain free promotion of your music in the Byron and surrounding regions - a major centre of culture and music in Australia.
1. Calon Arang : Ritus Menuju Rekonsiliasi

Kalangan "Majalah Virtual"
Translation
This time has seen an increase in information and media in terms of public access. If you are an enjoyer, enthusiast or lover of art and culture particularly performance we invite you to increase information which is developing in the art and culture world at the moment through something we call Kalangan.
Kalangan is a continuation of the Kalangan magazine which was published by the Masyarakat Seni Pertunjukan Indonesia - (Indonesian Performance Community) recently. The difference from the original Kalangan is that this magazine takes advantage of audio-visual technology to share the information more widely. A Virtual Magazine in VCD format which is possibly the first time that this has been done in Indonesia. This magazine attempts to provide an alternative to the problems of participating directly by providing performances and information utilizing audio visual format to you in its original form. i'd just like to give you a quick update on warogus, cos there's some interesting stuff coming up for us...
we're invited to the sacred rhythm festival in bali at year's end, but final arrangements are not yet in place so it's still unconfirmed, and therefore in some doubt because of the time frame involved... i've also just received an e-mail from the world festival of sacred music, which is organising a series of "regional" festivals in different continents starting in los angeles last month, and culminating in a "global" event in bangalore, south india, next april... they've indicated that they intend to invite warogus to perform in the global event... this is particularly exciting for us as the festival is an initiative of the dalai lama for world harmony in the new millenium... we will need to find appropriate (non-commercially oriented) sponsorship to enable us to attend the festival... if anybody out there in aiaa land has any suggestions i'd be very happy to receive them... the other piece of news is that agus will be in residence at the university of wellington for 6 months next year, with a brief to create new works with other artists there... a fantastic opportunity for him... this means that we'll be borrowing him from wellington to go to india... wahyu's also keen to return to oz, and waiting for news from karen and nandang in sydney, and from the byron gamelan... meanwhile, i've been working in perth with indian contemporary dancer/choreographer daksha sheth, on an early stage of something called the gilgamesh project... this will tell the 5000 year old story of king gilgamesh of uruk, and will bring together dancers, musicians and actors from india, indonesia and australia for performances starting in the perth international arts festival 2002!!!I Made Arya Palguna
Galeripadi starts the sequel exhibition of I Made Arya Palguna in Bandung, the three others will be in Jakarta, Bali, and Yogyakarta. The theme is monologue. It is the subjective opinion of the artist on viewing the reality around him.
Through the consciousness of visual language, the artist would like to open the space of interpretation for the audiences. His artworks is a naration about fragment of life he met and did. Galeripadi - December 5th - 19th 1999Dear Friends
In 1999 we had the pleasure and enormous privilege of hosting Minangkabau musician Rafiloza bin Rafii in our School of Music for six months. During his residency he performed Minang music (his specialty is rabab pasisia), created several new pieces with us, with our gamelan, with western musicians etc, supervised a New Zealand version of randai (Minang folk-theatre) and collaborated on a series compositions and improvisations. I've just finished editing the best of this material - which is fabulous - for a prospective radio programme and CD. The recordings are so wonderfully varied and inventive. The whole experience of interacting with Rafiloza on so many levels was for us, staff and students, something we will never forget. We are looking forward to hosting another residency next year, with Sundanese musician Agus Supriawan. The presence of such musicians who are at once superb practitioners within their own traditions and at the same time so open to cross-cultural explorations, is like a blast of fresh (perhaps "intoxicating" is a better description) air in an otherwise fairly conventional university music school. I recommend it to everyone - especially composers. Jack BodyMusik Jazz dan Manusia Unggul Demokratif

Kerjasama Senirupa
Hi
I came upon your interesting site in a search for an email address of Heri Dono. I met him a few years back and trying to get back in touch with him. Perhaps you also could help me out. I am unaware of any Indonesian artists working with video. I am trying to put together an international screening event to take place in NYC this May. I run a video series called Video Lounge (www.videolounge.org). If you have any information where I may find Heri, or on people working in Video, it would be much appreciated. Sincerely Carrie Dashow
